GPS Swimming Season and Swimming Club Season – explained

What is the difference between GPS Swimming Season and the Club Swimming Season?

I have created this post, as it is a common question.

Swimming Seasons
The swimming year can be broken up into 2 seasons;
GPS Swimming Season – Last week of January to end of first week in March – 6 weeks
Club Swimming Season – Second week of March to end of second week of January – 45 weeks

Squad Allocations and Training Times
During the GPS Season, any BGS students wishing to swim (regardless of their ability or purpose for swimming), need to attend the TWO weekly designated GPS sessions, swimming with members of their cohort.
Year 5-7 swimmers, this is TUESDAY and THURSDAY afternoons
Year 7-12 swimmers, this is MONDAY and WEDNESDAY afternoons

The purpose of these sessions is to perpetuate the BGS spirit, by allowing all BGS boys to come together and train as a team.
Sessions are sprint oriented and relay change-overs form a main training focus.

BGS students who are unable to attend any of the TWO weekly designated GPS sessions, will need to discuss options with Mr Matthew Logan or Mr David Lush

Swimmers wishing to participate in additional sessions can do so, however they will be allocated to a specific club squad based on their swimming ability.

During the Club Season, swimmers are placed into a squad based on their swimming ability – an assessment is usually required.
Our Club program follows an aquatic athletic development pathway, whereby swimmers progress through the squad hierarchy as they achieve skill/time prerequisites set for each squad.
